Dr. Elsanjak is a graduate of Odessa State Medical University. He acquired additional training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at Texas Tech University. Dr. Elsanjak came to our practice from Danville, VA where he practiced as a Nephrologist.
Dr. Evans received his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Virginia. He had additional training in Interventional Nephrology in Arizona. Dr. Evans established VNA’s first dialysis access center and provides vascular access placement as well as on-going access maintenance for dialysis patients.

Jessica Saunders is an Adult-Gerontological Nurse Practitioner who specializes in Nephrology. She graduated from Radford University with her RN and Duke University with her MSN/AGNP.

Debra Dooley is a family nurse practitioner who specializes in Nephrology. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with her RN, and from the University of Virginia with her MSN/FNP. Debra was the first FNP hired at VNA and has served our patients for 30 years.
SUSAN F. GUELICH, MD
Robin Wright is a family nurse practitioner who specializes in Nephrology. She graduated from Radford University with her RN and MSN/FNP. Robin also worked in the dialysis unit as a nurse for many years and brings great knowledge and experience to our practice.
JAMES RYAN ROBERTSON, RN, ACNP
Louise Shupe is an acute care nurse practitioner who specializes in the care of nephrology patients in the hospital. She graduated from the University of Virginia with her RN and MSN/FNP. Louise has been providing acute care for our patients for 16 years.
Rebecca Goble is a family nurse practitioner who specializes in Nephrology. She graduated from Radford University with her RN and MSN/FNP.
RESSIE LOUISE SHUPE, RN, ACNP
Ryan Robertson serves patients primarily in his hometown of Martinsville, Virginia. Prior to joining Valley Nephrology he served as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in Martinsville and in Nashville, Tennessee after having been an RN for six years. Ryan received his Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University and his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Old Dominion University.
Dr. Ballenger graduated from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed an additional five years' training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the University of Virginia Affiliated Training Programs. Dr. Ballenger has been providing care in Southwest Virginia for 35 years and was instrumental in bringing dialysis to the area.
CLIFFORD P. CULPEPPER, MD

Dr. Guelich is Board Certified in Pediatric Nephrology. She is a graduate of Duke University and the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her Pediatric Internship, Residency and Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Guelich specializes in children, adolescents and young adults. Dr. Guelich is the only practicing board certified pediatric nephrologist in this area providing care locally.
Rebecca Hughes is a family nurse practitioner who specializes in Nephrology. She graduated from Radford University with her RN, and from Old Dominion University with her MSN/FNP.
Dr. Mathew received his medical degree from Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. His Nephrology Fellowship was at the University of Virginia. He also received additional training in Renal Transplantation and is UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) certified. Dr. Mathew has been providing care in Southwest Virginia for 26 years and was instrumental in bringing kidney transplantation care to the area.

VNA is fortunate to employee 6 nurse practitioners, who see outpatients in the Roanoke office, dialysis units, and in the Roanoke area hospitals. Nurse practitioners’ advanced training allows them to perform all aspects of health and illness assessments and to diagnose and manage acute and chronically ill patients with very complex illnesses. They work in collaboration with the physicians to assure the best possible care for our patients.

Dr. George is a specialist in clinical hypertentsion, and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He received his medical degree from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College and Teaching Hospital, Bangalore University, Bangalore, India. Dr. George completed an Internship in General Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He served his Internship in Family Medicine and Residency in Internal Medicine at Carilion Clinic & Salem Veterans Affairs Program in Roanoke, Virginia. His Nephrology Fellowship was at University of Virginia.

Dr. Cain is a graduate of Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School. He served his Residency in Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine. His Nephrology Fellowship was at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. Dr. Cain served in the US Navy as a physician and has continued providing care in Southwest Virginia for 20 years.
Dr. Escasinas received his medical degree from Cebu Institute of Medicine in Cebu City, Philippines. He completed additional training at Internal Medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and in Nephrology at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Escasinas provided care for ten years in a private practice and has been practicing in Southwest Virginia with VNA for 16 years.
ROBIN H. WRIGHT, RN, FNP
Dr. Culpepper is a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He acquired an additional five years' training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the University of Virginia Affiliated Training Programs. Dr. Culpepper has been providing care in Southwest Virginia for 32 years, with the first few years spent opening our first satellite office in New River Valley.
VNA's physicians are all Board Certified with extensive backgrounds in nephrology, internal medicine, transplantation, geriatrics, and pediatrics. VNA physicians are faculty members of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Carilion School of Medicine. Most of our physicians are very involved in the training of internal medicine specialists. Some VNA physicians have earned the distinction of Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP) and Specialist in Clinical Hypertension designated by the American Society of Hypertension (ASH) and Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN).
Dr. Ahmadzadeh is a graduate of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran. He served his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia Roanoke-Salem program. His Nephrology Fellowship was at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He has had additional training in Interventional Nephrology. Dr. Ahmadzadeh provides on-going vascular access maintenance and care for dialysis patients.
